Different Sheets of Material

  • Acrylic - It's a transparent thermoplastic often used as a sheet. It is shatter-resistant and hence used as an alternative to glass. It has trade names such as plexiglass, lucite, perspex, crylux, and acrylite.
  • Aluminum - It's the most abundant element on earth. It is a soft and lightweight metal. Depending on the roughness of the surface, its color varies from silver to dull gray.
  • Foam - It can also refer to something analogous to foam such as quantum foam, polyurethane foam (foam rubber), XPS foam, polystyrene, phenolic, or many other manufactured foams.
  • Medium-Density Fibreboard (MDF) - It's an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibers. This is often done in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels under high temperature and pressure. MDF is denser than plywood and stronger than particle board.
  • Melamine - It's combined with formaldehyde and other agents to produce melamine resins. These resins are durable thermosetting plastic used in high-pressure decorative laminates such as Formica, melamine dinnerware, laminate flooring, and dry erase boards.
  • Plywood - It's manufactured from thin layers or “plies” of wood veneer. These are glued together with adjacent layers having their wood grain rotated up to 90 degrees to one another. Plywood is from the family of manufactured boards which includes medium-density fibreboard and particleboard.
  • PVC - It's a common, strong, and lightweight plastic used in construction projects. The addition of plasticizers makes it softer and flexible. If not, it's called uPVC or rigid PVC. It's often expanded to create voids in the interior of the material, providing additional thickness without additional weight and minimal extra cost.
  • Masonite - It's a type of hardboard. It is made of steam-cooked and pressure-molded wood fibers in a process patented by William H. Mason. It's also known as Quartrboard, Isorel, hernit, karlit, torex, treetex, or pressboard.
  • Particleboard - It's also known as low-density fibreboard (LDF), and chipboard. It's made from wood chips, sawmill shavings, or even sawdust, and a synthetic resin or another suitable binder, which is pressed and extruded. It's a cheaper option.
  • Laminated material
